We got back from Bernina 830 training. Me on Friday and Thor on Saturday.
WOW! The 830 is the most awesome sewing machine ever! The opening is huge, you can almost slip a featherweight through it. (kidding) It is the quietest Bernina ever. The automatic threading is great. The bobbin and bobbin winding are unbeleivable. Open the bobbin door and the bobbin rotates and is a little out from the machine for easy access. The bobbin holds about 40% more thread than other brands.
One new feature is a built in walking foot. We sewed minkee with no puckering or stretching! then we sewed a ribbon onto the minkee, one side one way, the other side the other direction: no shirring!
Come and see, I’m setting up ours Monday.
See you in the shop

Belen’s lymph node biopsy is negative. We are all so relieved. Now we wait for the group to decide what the spot on her lung is or isn’t.
We’re headed out to Bernina training for the new 830. Back Saturday. We get to bring the 830 home.

Sometimes I think I have a boring life. How can running a quilt shop be boring? Mostly because some things become so routine. Paying bills is one.
Then there are the busy days like during the Shop Hops, people filling the shop talking and sharing ideas. So not so boring. Trying to multi-task, not so boring.
I do love seeing what others are doing. A wonderful lady showed us her Saturday Sampler quilt from last year. She had embellished it in such a fun way. There were trees around the houses, button doorknobs, the ’store’ block had dry goods in the windows. Really cute. There is a pug!
The new Saturday Sampler called Kaleidoscope of Kolor is very popular. 40 people and counting.

This is a Color Wheel Bargello I made earlier this year. I wanted to do a project with brown, yellow and orange. Sandy Rohne taught the class, you can make a cirlce only or a figure eight. It’s strip pieced and the pattern provides the template/ruler to cut the wedges, so it’s not too bad to make.
I decided to make the Lewis and Clark shop hop quilt, so keep an eye out for that.

Friday is the first day of the Stitchin’ Along the Lewis and Clark Shop Hop. Yay!
Each shop has a block pattern and fabric for you. (choose your own background) I have our block on display and am working on getting the other shops patterns. (Or at least pictures to show).
Pick up a passport at the first shop you visit, have it stamped at each shop and turn it in to the last shop you visit. It’s that easy!
Prize information at the shop.
Not working on much these days. Belen is home and recovering well. She is taking less pain medications and able to eat and swallow a little easier. I have some cute Thanksgiving patterns that just need some buttonhole stitching.
nite now

Belen is home and doing okay. Her neck is very painful and her throat hurts. No wonder: the incision is 5 or 6 inches long. It goes from behind about middle of her ear to the middle of her neck front. They also went through her cheek side gum into the right sinus to check out something there. so a bone “window” was taken out there. OUCH!!!
We are waiting for the biopsy on Belen’s lymph nodes. The surgeon is confident that they got it all on her tongue and feels the lymph nodes are not involved. Wait for biopsy.
The CT showed a mass in her right sinus which turned out to be nothing. They did see a ’spot’ or ’shadow” on her left lung that we’ll follow up on.
Belen was in the hospital only Wednesday to Friday. It’s really hard for her to swallow anything.
Thor and I got Hannah’s quilt done (binding). She has it on her chair at home now. She likes the quilting on it especially the ‘maze’ in the border. We also did buttonhole on Belen’s dog quilt.

Belen is getting nervous about Wednesday. She keeps quoting from “Lord of the Rings” “Standing on the brink of something I can do nothing about.”
Got a message from the surgeon’s office asking us to get Belen’s records from the cancer center in Seattle. That’s a little worrisome, since we haven’t heard anything about the CT results. He thought that if there is no lymph node involvment that she would have the tongue surgery and remove the lymph nodes and be done except for follow-ups. Requesting the records from Seattle worries me that there is lymph involvment and they may be planning radiation. She has had a lot of radiation already. If they give her much more her tissue could die.
Working on Belen’s dog quilt. Doing a buttonhole stitch around each one. As of last night–21 to go. Getting to my shoulders now. I told her it would be done before her surgery day.
the shop calls see you

Still waiting for results. Belen is tired, says she feels like she has the flu.
We’re making a potato bag using the instructions posted on the blog. Belen chose the fabric.
Finally getting to the binding on Hannah’s quilt. She can’t wait.
I have to get working on my challange quilt. We chose a ufo to finish by Christmas, otherwise we owe the others in the group a half yard of fabric. Mine is Windy City Star. I have almost one block done,(out of four). Sandy taught it as a freezer paper piecing class. It’s been so long i’ve almost forgotten how to do it.
The second of three commissioned quilts is done and in the owner’s hands. She loves it! I’m sure I posted pictures before. The third is in progress and I don’t have pictures yet, tho I did tell her i would post some. soon, I’m pretty stressed out with Belen and all. Very forgetful. Pretty moody.
I know i brought the camera home, but am not sure where the cord is to download pictures. Such is life.

Well, some of you know by now that Belen is diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. She is having surgery later this month. The doctors are very hopeful and used the word curable. We’re waiting for the CT results which will tell us if there is lymph node involvement.
On a happier note, I am almost finished with a trio of Thanksgiving mini wall hangings. Two pilgrams and “Give Thanks”. If I can remember I’ll post pictures.
take care

Been busy the last week or two. Bernina training October 2 and 3. Then busy as the shop. Left Tuesday for Innovations (a longarm quilting show) then home and back to work Friday. Things should settle down until November when we have Bernina training of the new 830. (Which we get to bring home with us!)
Finished quilting a double Irish chain I started almost 3 years ago. Getting used to using my longarm quilt machine. Only doing free motion for now. so I did curvy lines in the chain and flowers in the large squares. learning lots about the movement of the machine head. Also about cleaning and oiling it. I need to double check my zippers to make sure they are on straight. They make it fast and easy to load quilts.
Tomorrow I’ll quilt a wallhanging on my Bernina. It’s called Goosefeather Tree and is a class at the shop. After that, well I’m not sure. Thor is going sailing. I want to raise my longarm table. Maybe I’ll do that.
Oh well. nite
